Community Addiction Studies Course QQI Level 5 (component
Part-Time Course Mondays: 7 pm to 10 pm + 2 Saturdays 100 Hours: over 20 weeks Starting mid-November Blessington Further Education Centre
The purpose of the Course is to enable people to: Learn about drugs and their effects Examine their own attitudes Develop an understanding of addiction Become more effective in their personal responses Develop the skills and knowledge to become more effective in responding to drug misuse in their own communities
Learner Profile: Community members who feel they would like to be more effective when it comes to drug/ alcohol issues. There are no specific education requirements to participate in this course, but written assignments form part of the coursework and accreditation is at QQI Level 5 which is equivalent to leaving certificate. Participants must be over 18. Voluntary community experience desirable, but not essential Number of learners: 20 Maximum Application Procedure: Application forms need to be filled out and all applicants are required to take part in an interview. Selection Procedure: Application Committee selects participants based on written applications and interviews. Certification: KWETB is registered with QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland) to offer programmes leading to QQI awards in the National Framework of Qualifications. This course is one Module at QQI Level 5 which is leaving certificate standard
Cost: €50 contribution (€25 at registration) Support towards payment can be provided on request
