Early Childhood Care and Education




Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education 
Leading to a full award at QQI Level 5 ECCE


This course is for those who wish: 

  •  To explore the area of childcare with a view to re-skilling/upskilling and exploring concepts and subject areas that may interest the learner in future programmes or employment.
  •  To acquire the knowledge, skill, competence and confidence to work independently and under supervision in the area of childcare delivery and in a supportive role in different Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) settings. 

Entry Requirements:

Applicant should be:-

  • A confident reader writer and speller. 
  • Have a  full Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications.

 

Recognition of prior learning or work experience in the field may be taken into account should you not have a QQI Level 4 or Leaving Certificate.

Additional Requirements:

  •  The learner must be Garda Vetted to participate fully on this programme.
  • Basic computer skills e.g. word processing, internet and email are required.
  • Be able to work effectively - in a group situation and independently. 
  • Attend all timetabled classes for the duration of the programme.
  • Participate in all planned programme activities.
  • Study at home regularly and appropriately for the duration of the programme.
  • The learner must be able to participate in four weeks work experience – this is outside of class time.

Eligibility Criteria: 

 

The course is free to participants who:

 

·         Are in receipt of any DSP payment or have a medical card.

·         Do not have a Leaving Certificate or equivalent.

·         Are on a very low income.

Learner Supports:

The following supports are available to learners who participate on this course.

  • Study Skills Revision Class will be provided and is recommended for all participants.
  • Access to KWETB Adult Guidance Service.
  • Support for students through the Adult Basic Education Service if required
  • Wheelchair accessibility.

 

Application Procedure:

Places are allocated based on successfully meeting the eligibility criteria, learner need, learner suitability for the programme and places available.

Prospective students will:

  • Fill in an Application Form.
  • Attend for interview.

Progression Options:

Learners who successfully complete this course can progress to working in the healthcare industry.  Further study including Level 6, 7 or 8 is an option in the area of Childcare, Social or Community Care, etc.  Adult Education Guidance Service is available to all students.
