This course would suit those who wish to enter the Healthcare service and work in a supportive role in a number of different healthcare settings and in particular care of the older person.

 Course Structure and Duration

Days: Monday and Wednesday Evenings    

Time: 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm.

Course Fee: Free to eligible participants

Additional requirements:

  • The Care Skills module will include 6 weeks or 30 days’ work experience. 
Entry Requirements:

Applicants should have a Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications. Places may also be available for those who have left school early and have relevant life and work experiences.

This course would suit those who wish to enter the Healthcare service and work in a supportive role in a number of different healthcare settings and in particular care of the older person. 

Places are allocated based on successfully meeting the eligibility criteria, learner need, learner suitability for the programme and places available.

This course is being made available byKWETB under the Back to Education Initiative part funded by the European Social Fund.

Progression options:
Learners who have completed this course have gone on to; work as healthcare assistants in a home care setting, in a nursing home setting, and in disability care settings. Learners can also progress on to further education in areas such as Nursing and Social Care.

The following supports are available to learners who participate on this course if required:
  • Study Skills Revision Class will be provided and is recommended for all participants.
  • Access to our Adult Guidance Service.
  • Support for students who wish to progress on to further education.
  • Support for learner disabilities through the Adult Basic Education Service.
  • Wheelchair accessibility.

Course Fees:

The course is free to participants who are currently unemployed, who do not have a leaving certificate or who are on a very low income. From time to time there may be limited number of places available to other participants and a fee per module will apply for these students.
