Certificate in Health Science (Pre-Nursing)

The Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) is a training programme, which provides courses of one year duration for unemployed people.
To be eligible for the scheme one must be:
Over 21 years of age, unemployed and at least six months in receipt of specific social welfare payments
  • Unemployment Benefit/Assistance
  • One-Parent Family Payment
  • Disability Allowance
  • Invalidity Pension
  • Those signing for credits that satisfy these conditions and dependant spouses  of eligible persons may also avail of the programme
  • Courses are provided free of charge, and meal and travel allowances are available. Childcare support is available where necessary.
  • Courses are full time Monday to Friday

Who is this course for:
The course is for those who wish to work in the area of Healthcare and entry into pre-nursing.

Entry Requirements:
  • Be able to work effectively - in a group situation and independently
  • Attend all timetabled classes for the duration of the programme
  • Participate in all planned programme activities
  • Study at home regularly and appropriately for the duration of the programme
  • Applicants should have a full Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications. Places may also be available for those who have left school early and can demonstrate relevant life and work experiences
  • The learner must be able to participate in work experience to participate fully on this programme

Care Skills Work Experience 
Nursing Theory and Practice Painting 
Human Growth and Development Communications

  • Access to KWETB Adult Guidance Service
  • Support for students through the Adult Basic Education Service if required
  • Wheelchair accessibility

Application Procedure:
Places are allocated based on successfully meeting the eligibility criteria, learner need, learner suitability for the programme and places available

  • Attend for interview

Prospective students will:
Learners who successfully complete this course can progress to working in Healthcare and also to further study including Level 6, 7 or 8 is an option in the area. Adult Education Guidance Service is Available to all students
