Learner Council- The Learner Voice at West Wicklow Youthreach Blessington

A Learner Council is a representative structure for leaners only, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the centre, working in partnership with the centre management team, staff and parents for the benefit of the centre and its learners.

Each year a learner council is elected on behalf of all learners in Youthreach to express their opinions and contribute to the Youthreach community.  Elections for the learner council members’ takes place and learners are involved in the democratic process whereby nominations are sought, speeches given and learners cast their vote.

On Friday the 20th of September 2012, learners voted for the learner council 2012 / 2013 representatives.  The Learner council have regular meetings with tutor Keith Clarges and a report is presented to the staff and coordinator, which in turn is fed back to the learner body.  The Coordinator Denise Walsh is invited to attend the meetings on occasion to discuss matters arising.

The learner council will become involved in community projects, fundraising, the promotion of sports, trips and the promotion of Youthreach to other adult learners as well as having great ideas for future activities.  One of which includes having a debs ball for all Youthreach Learners in CO Wicklow VEC.  Other ideas include: trips and summer project ideas,
